I'm a traveling nurse and will be working at a small hospital in the town of Brownwood which is in central Texas. Where do people dive around there and where is the nearest shop? I suspect Austin would be the closest, but I really have no idea. Any help will be welcomed.

There is a pretty nice lake in Brownwood, but I dont know if it is divable. You are pretty close to both Fort Worth (surface interval scuba) and Austin(Oak Hills). The closest dive site to you will actually be Valhalla Missile Silo.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to Roatan in the middle of this assignment, so since I'll have my gear with me, I thought I would see what local diving is available. I'll see if I can find them on the internet.

There is a little dive shop in Brownwood. There are 2 shops in Abilene 90 miles away. Possum Kingdom Lake has a nice dive area,Scuba Point. They also have a dive shop and the worlds largest compressor GoldFinger.

thanks again for the information. I'll be sure to look them up.

You guys are the best. The links have been most helpful. Can't wait to get down there and meet "yawl" (we say it in NC, too).

The LDS in Brownwood was closed when I was there weekend before last. But keep in mind that Austin and lake Travis are only a 2.5 hour drive from Brownwood!
