Hi all of you,

I'm going to St. Croix on August.

I would like to have your comments or suggestions about trips, and dive centers.

Thank you!

Dove with Cane Bay Dive Shop in January - great people!
They have a full service shop on the north shore. They
dive off a small rubber boat on the north shore, but have
a large boat for trips to the west shore.
The north shore sites are five to ten minutes from the shop,
short trip and easy dives. Made two dives with only me
and a divemaster, and boat captain - nice!
The west shore, pick-up on the Frederiksted Pier.
Also dove the Frederiksted Pier at night with "N2 the Blue".
A great dive!
Did the pier night and day! It's a must.
Enjoy your time there.

We've been to St. Croix 3 times, most recently in March 2009. We used Cane Bay Scuba for our first trip and most recent trip, and have been quite happy with them. The only guided dive we did in our most recent trip was the night dive at the new Fredriksted pier, all our other dives were just the 2 of us from shore.

The folks at Vacation St. Croix have a number of rental properties available if you're looking for something other than a regular resort - we used them to rent a villa the last 2 trips there and we're very pleased with their operation.

We've rented vehicles from Budget twice there with no hassles, but the middle trip we rented from Hertz with lots of hassles from the local Hertz franchisee (wouldn't honor the guaranteed reservation rate, took several weeks after return to receive proper credit from Hertz Corporate on our credit card). We won't rent from Hertz on St. Croix again.

Have a great trip!

We stayed at "Cottages By The Sea" in Frederiksted, on the western side of the island.
Very nice, great price and had it's own kitchen - saves on meals.
The western side of the island is very quite/calm water, but it bit away from
many of the thing's to do. Except the Frederiksted Pier dive. But gas is cheap,
$1.75 in January 2009!
We rented our car from "Judi of St. Croix" - check the internet. Just a very small
one person operation, but the price was great, service as well. She picked us up
at the airport, and we dropped the car at the airport.
Have a great trip.

Happy to help.

We'll typically rent a small pickup truck rather than a car for dive trips such as this. On our first trip to Curacao, we'd reserved a pickup truck but something happened in the system and it wasn't there when we showed up, so we got a Rav4 instead. After several days of trucking around moist dive gear in the heat, it got fairly smelly inside. After some return trips to Curacao and Bonaire, we came to the conclusion a truck is best for segregating the moist dive gear from the cab.

Budget, Centerline, and Hertz all have pickup trucks in their rental fleets on St. Croix. We rented a Nissan Frontier extended cab from Budget for $299 for the week plus takes & fees, came out to about $337 total for the week on our most recent trip in March '09. It was just right for 2 divers, and on the 2 days we had a third passenger, my wife was just petite enough to fit in one of the tiny second row seats. If you'll have more than 2 people, consider a full size truck or a crew cab (either small or large).
