I am making my return trip to Roatan next week! I am so excited! I was there this past November and had an incredible time. I stayed at Fantasy Island. The vis was not the best in November but I have heard that it is gin clear during the summer months.

Is anyone else headed out there soon?

I am curious as to what everyone's favorite sites are. I think mine was Calvin's Crack..

Happy diving all!

LOL, ooops, thats called overly excited, yet overly tired.... May 22-29.

Thanks :)

Gin clear, well- maybe with a twist of lime.

Roatan is simply not known for it's crystal clear waters, although November is likely the most occluded due to rains and run-off. This can be icky.

May should be much clearer- but it brings up an interesting discussion- something you tend to understand more and more after many logged dives. In effect, "gin clear water" means that you are seeing nothing. I only am slightly joking, here.

Even on it's clearest months, the Bay Islands waters are awash with critters in the water column. This is the grocery store you are browsing through. Lots of little animals- almost invisible, swimming about- ready to be eaten!

Because of currents and water flow specific to the South Side (FIBR, CCV, RHR, BFK resorts)... this is why this area is micro/macro heaven. Lots of little bitty juveniles consuming the microscopic critters floating by.

On a night dive, notice "all of the bugs" in the water? That's yummy food.

And yes, Calvin's Crack is one of my favorites, too. Beats Mary's Place hands down.

Myself, I liked Half Moon Bay Wall. It was one of the last dive I did on my Roatan trip. Mary's Place was good too, but I just didn't like it as much.

Thanks for the info RoatanMan ;) interesting stuff! I did my first night dive in Roatan, and yeah I definitely saw a lot of "bugs" ...and an octopus!

I remembered the name of the other site I was a big fan of, Valley of the King... was one of the last sites we went to, it was truly breathtaking!
