I'll be staying in Palau for five weeks. Anyone know of any clean but cheap hostels? I'm a PADI instructor. Which shops have the best dive prices? My internet search hasn't been too helpful so far.

Old post but for that long of time I would contact say Sam's, Fish and Fins, or Neco Marine and see if they can not find an apartment or something that is empty. It would sure beat staying in a hostel.

As for diving shops the three I listed all cater to western clients. All three get good reviews and are competitive. We used Sam's and were pleased.

Contact me for infos where to stay for cheap and cheaper fares for diving.

I am planning to go in November too. Hopefully celebrate Thanksgiving Day by diving in Palau. Would greatly appreciate if i can get more details for some information like a backpacker/diver rates. =)

Can't help you with the hostels but the cheapest place I considered staying in Koror was New Koror Hotel, which is far from 'new'. However, $45 will buy you a room with a hard bed, small table and chair with air con and a personal shower with hot water and I think the price drops to $40 if you stay over a week. (I could be misremembering that conversation though.) In Peleliu, $35 gets you a shared toilet/bath with no hot water and no air con. That might help you figure out the price structure in Palau.

Okay my fellow late November divers traveling to Palau --better bring a warm rain jacket or poncho, and brace yourselves for a hour-long very rough ride out from the land based dive ops. Looks like we got some weather and high seas this weekend & start to Thanksgiving Week:shocked2: :

Still typhoon season out here. This morning's paper showed a little circulation south of Palau. But even if it develops into anything it should be well clear of Palau by the time it does.

The wind, rain and swell makes it a very cold, wet & pounding/punishing skiff ride --out to the divesites and coming back to Koror. . .

Hope it all calms down with the sun coming out during and beyond Turkey Day!
