Hey everyone. My partner and I have booked a trip to Fji for 2 weeks over Xmas/New Years. I'd appreciate any advice/recommendations from anyone who has been there. We're not sure if we should book accommodation ahead of time (we'll just be staying at backpackers). Normally we'd just "wing it" once we got there so we've got freedom to do whatever we feel like each day, but being the Christmas period we're worried about not being able to find accommodation. We want to do some diving on the islands, is Taveuni the best? We can do a package dive there for 7 days which seems fairly reasonable. Any other good diving day trips recommended? Should we base ourselves in Nadi or Suva? We land in Nadi from Brisbane. What other things should we see? So many questions! Thanks guys.

Hi there. I ran into a site the other day that should answer every question you have. I was going over their Fiji page and they have TONS of great info for scuba diving travelers. Many of the questions I heard you ask, should be answered here. it is www.scubavacationexperts.com

hope this helps!

TONS! Not really; the site is pretty thin on info. IMHO, they've totally missed some marvelous diving in the eastern Bligh Water out of Wananavu Beach Resort near Rakiraki.

A better source of info: Undercurrent's "The Travelin' Diver's Chapbook"

Agreed.

Considering what we spend on scuba vacations, Undercurrent is well worth the subscription charge.

TK, find yourself a good travel broker there in Brisbane who is an avid diver and they will set you straight. Nadi is the gateway to Fiji since they have the airport - land and then get out of there as fast as you can. Unless you have an itinerary or you have been there in Fiji a few times, you will have no idea what to do or where to go - there's something like 8,000 islands that make up the country.
