Going to be in Bangkok in early September

Which places would you guys recommend for a short 2/3 day trip?
I will be in Bangkok during the weekdays for work and plan to leave Friday night to do some diving.
Where would you guys go?

I've read the west side (Andaman Sea) is the best place to go diving?

I've been to the Similan Islands (Richelieu Rock, etc)

Yes, west side would be the best diving. But for 2-3 days including travel time (and no-flying time if returning by air), Pattaya will be a lot more practical.
