Will be in aneheim CA in July and want to take the opportunity to get some diving in. I've heard good things about Catalina island but any other recommendations?

Also, is it possible to head over to Catalina island for one day only?

You might want to check out www.californiadiveboats.com. I don't know much about OC boats, but there are several good choices out of Long Beach including the Encore. The Great Escape also moved there from San Pedro in May... Check their websites to see what is on the agenda.

You could also take the Catalina Express over and dive Casino Point - I assumed that you would be buddyless and would want the boat option for that reason. Also check California Diving News at www.saintbrendan.com.

As for local diving, Shaw's Cove in Laguna Beach is defiinitely one of the better shore dives in thea area. Some great shore diving in La Jolla as well.

Catalina is great. As was mentioned, check out www.saintbrendan.com for local dive boat info out of Long Beach and San Pedro.
