Hi everyone,

Thought it would be interesting to see what some of the newbies goals are for themselves this year for their diving experience. Both for training/experience and dive trips. :icon5:

Mine fall into both catagories;

Training/Experience - I plan on taking my AOW this summer through the scuba club I belong to at work. Also want to take the Red Cross CPR course so I then can take the Rescue diver class although that maynot be this year.

Dive trips - Locally I want to get to all the local dive location here in Illinois as well as a few I know of in Missouri and Indiana, maybe even Kentucky. Travel trips - Want to get back to Jacksonville, Florida to vist my grandson and get in an ocean dive this time. Hit Ginnie last time (Christmas last year) I would love to get to a Cozumel or Bahama's dive but that is a long shop for me!!

Not that I don't want responses from everyone, but since I am still new and planning my future education in diving, I was interested in hearing what others have planned!

Thanks everyone!

my goals for 2004 are as follows:

1. Get Rescue certifed (done: April, 2004)

2. Complete Intro. to Cave Course (enrolled for May 8-9 class)

3. Complete at least 50 dives for 2004 (well on track)

4. Take a tropical dive vacation (will go to Bonaire June 30-July 7)

so, goal-wise, 2004 is shaping up alright!

While I have been diving for over 20yrs the wife and I just got our AOW certs. Goals are:

1. Nitrox Cert
2. Wreck Cert
3. Photo Trip on Live Aboard
4. July 2wk trip to Roatan & Utila
5. Do more diving in British Columbia
6. 6 days of diving per month, Minimum

Why do I enjoy writing these down so much more than my daily work goals????

Nice idea for a thread, Jeff.

  1. Complete dive kit (DONE! Got tanks in Florida)
  2. Dive in SALT WATER. (Done! Ft.Lauderdale in April'04)
    • 5 shore dives
    • 4 boat dives
      • 2 wreck dives
      • 2 reef dives (same reef, but who cares!)
  3. CPR class (prereq. for Rescue)
  4. Rescue class (PADI Rescue Diver or YMCA SLAM)
  5. At least 4 more "dive trips" (either day/weekend at a local quarry or maybe a trip to salt water)
  6. Double my lifetime dives this summer (i.e., at least 30 more)
  7. Actually dive with someone from ScubaBoard

Now I just have to remember to come back to this thread in eight months to see how I did!

1. get AWO
2. hope that my wife finishes her OW
3. trips to porto santo (portugal), egypt (for the AOW) and thailand (just to have fun and get away from home).

mainly i want to dive a lot. i'm only certified since january and haven't done a lot of diving...

I’ve been certified ( NAUI Scuba Diver ) since 4/4/04, with only 10 dives in my log book, I have several goals.

1. Dive, dive, dive and dive some more. At least every other weekend … 2-3 dives. Laguna beach, Catalina, San Diego …
2. Purchase gear ( BC, Reg, Comp, lights )
3. Complete Advanced Diver Course ( any suggestions as to the most instruction for my dollar – NAUI / PADI ? ).
4. Rescue Diver Course ( already have CPR, O2 and AED training, I’m still certified as an EMT1 ). Any suggestions as to the most instruction for my dollar – NAUI / PADI ? ).
5. Five day live aboard boat trip ( Bahamas ) August or September.
6. Make friends, have fun, be safe.

I’m sure there will be more, but this is a good start for me. I’ve been wanting to scuba dive since I was 13 years old, it only took 29 years to make it happen. Now I spend a large percentage of my waking hours daydreaming about diving. I visualize a dive day in my head while I should be working. I go through gearing up, entry, descent, navigation, ascent, S.I.T, next dive …. sometimes it gets in the way of concentrating on my job. Just so you know … I’m at work right now, dreaming about diving.

Well, let's see.

1. Finish OW Feb 04
2. Get AOW Feb 04
3. Get Nitrox cert April 04
4. Test drive some Zeagle gear. Taking it with me to Jamaica.
5. Go to Jamaica May 1 - 8. ;)
6. Dive, dive, dive and do it some more.
7. Dive Mermet springs
8. Dive Table Rock Lake
9. Get dry suit cert in the fall.
10. Other training is not planned, but may happen.
Right now I just want to get some diving under my belt and some practice in. Want to dive with more experienced people and know a few to do that with.

Future plans are to work up to cave, wreck, and tech.
