Nah, just does a better job of preserving them. Anyway, the deer flies are a lot worse when they're around; they actually take a little piece of you away with them.
I've had many oppurtunities to do an ice dive, and almost went once or twice. Then I heard somebody say, "It was pretty ok, but if I ever do it again, there better bloody well be mating orcas or something down there."
For some reason, that remark just killed it for me. Actually, around here, the only thing that's different about the dive - apart from the fact that it becomes an overhead dive - is the surface temperature.
Ok, the water's a little more clear, but I've done the December diving thing enough to know that I'm just not that big on it. On my last dive of last season, I put my mask down on a bench for 30 seconds and it stuck there. I had to dig out my traditional flask of hot tea and use it to melt the bond. Who needs that sort of *?
