So i dive witha buddy of mine, and sometimes i need to call him over to either assist with a kill b.c i suck, haha. or jsut in general, maybe saftey issues i dono, rather be prepared. so anyways, i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to get the attention of a dive partner while underwater, and without scaring the fishes. thanks.

We have. Ussually we do try to stay close adn keep an eye out for each other. Normally when we need to call each other we have to tap each other with our spear or somthing, sometimes freaks one of us out, ok ussually does, but we need a quicker way to call each other is the problem.

Don't know if one exists - that's why spearfishers often solo hunt/dive - same ocean philosophy. There's a lot of noisemakers, but fish hear that too...once a DM taught me that you could half-fill a waterbottle and rub it between your hands with pressure to make a low grunting sound that sounds like a lobster in distress............that was to bring in sharks for us to see though - so probably NOT a solution to your problem LOL :) A lot of serious spearfishers to try to minimize noise though - as it does scare away the smarter (larger) fish.

A divelight. Either shine it at the other diver or better at the place he is looking. Of course this works best at night but a bright beam is pretty visible in the daytime too.

wont scare the fish? and i free dive no tanks yet. si i figure bang on somthing i got. haha. or any other ideas?
i was thinking of this also becasue what if you see a shark, i figure i want to let my buddy know, and not just leave him.

My husband bangs his flashlight on the heel of his hand..

It makes this clicking noise and gets me every time! I just make a very shrill high pitched "Doot, doot, doot" sound, and that gets his attention.
