I've read on a few sites that Continental has direct flights to Roatan from Newark airport.

One site that says mentions direct flights from Newark
Roatan Travel Honduras | How to Get to Roatan Honduras

Problem is when I check for flights everything is at least one stop in either Houston or San Pedro Sula.

Does anyone know of a direct flight down there from my area or am I stuck making some stops on the way? Thanks!

Non-stop in airline-speak means that you get on the plane, when it lands, you are there.

Direct means that you sit in the plane while it makes intermediate stops on the way down. Nowadays the definition has been stretched to mean that you are might simply be staying within the Carrier's named flights, or even just the partners of that carrier.

You check the bags once, either way.

OK thanks for the clarification on that. Lots of help!

The flights I'm seeing are not non-stop. They involve changing planes. Does anyone know of any non-stop flights from the northeast?

I think the only nonstop flights to Roatan are on Continental through Texas or Delta through Atlanta. Flights in SAP can be tricky to make connections to Roatan as flights are not always reliable and the ferry is on the other side of of the mainland. You would have to hire a taxi or take a bus..
Goot luck ,, it is worth the stops..

Direct from newark has been available in the past but like everything, there is change. Right now you can book from Newark to Roatan with a Stop in Houston and be on the Island just after noon time for under $500. Thats not bad.
For places with more true direct or non stop flights you may want to look to the Bahamas , Cayman, Cozumel or other more popular destinations

Scubasteve I don't live that far from you and I HATE having to drive up to Newark for flights even though sometimes its cheaper and you can go direct. Sometimes I'd rather just fly out of PHL and connect somewhere since it's only 15 mins from my house.

I feel ya. I'm about 20 miles from Philly and hate driving to Newark for flights. In my opinion its worth the extra money to fly out of Philly and not worry about driving. I just wish Philly had more non-stop flights to the Caribbean.

I agree. I flew out of Newark earlier this year to go to Montserrat through Antigua and it was a pain in the ass but Newark was the only airport that had direct flights to Antigua otherwise we would have had to go from Philly -> Atlanta -> Antigua -> Montserrat. All day on a plane? no thanks.

but next time if I have to fly out of Newark I'm taking the high speed line out of Camden instead of driving up. I'm hoping it'll make things a lot easier

Don't get me started on DELTA. I could go on and on.

If you take DELTA you will go through Atlanta hub which is a giant air traffic CF.
If you take Continental you will (most likely) go through Houston, which wasn't so bad.

I JUST flew down on DELTA and got screwed over big time. Every single plane I got on had mechanical issues. DO NOT FLY DELTA. Due to a missed flight they re-routed me and my wife to Roatan on a Continental flight out of Houston and it was actually quite a nice flight. On time and well maintained airplane. Sadly, it was the next day and meant missing a day of my dive honeymoon as DELTA has very few flights to Roatan.

I'll tell you right now that if I ever go to Honduaras again I will be flying CONTINENTAL.

*end rant*
