I got sick at the bottom on my resort course dive 7 years ago. this was not something they went over in that super-short class!LOL! So, when it happened, I just swallowed *EWWW* and gave the "going up" signal to the DM. Funny thing is my best friend, who was not in my view at that time got sick at the same moment. At first we thought it was food poisoning since we had the breakfast buffet, and were not the least bit nauseous on the boat. But then ALL the other divers who stayed down longer than us got REALLY sick and hurled over the boat all the way back. I realized when I took the OW course that we probably all had bad air, and that's why the folks who stayed down longer got so much sicker.

Anyway, I have since heard that blowing it out through the reg works and attracts all the pretty fishies, so I will file that away for (hopefully not) future use.

Yes, Yes, it's true.....you can do anything through your reg....even spewing!!! It is true that if you remove your reg you would have a difficult time breathing, and may even drown yourself....the natural instict when you hurl is to immediatley gasp for air.....if no reg is in your mouth....no air. It may seem gross, but that's why the regulator has been designed to be tough!!! I always "off gass" through my reg!!:D

Because of my talent in talking to the fish and getting them to approach more closely, I will share one of my secrets with you: "BLEARGH!!!!!" It never fails, and our little scaly friends just LOVE quesadillas! :D
If that's your idea of whispering, I'd hate to see you shout at the poor fishies. :D

There's an etiquette issue here too, innit!! (I've never been sick underwater, not yet anyway) - If you vom through your spare reg rather than using your main, DON'T then offer that to anyone else who wants your air!! Give em the clean one!! Cos - ewww.

If you must spew, do it through your octo and make sure your buddy sees. This guarantees that your buddy wil not have an OOA situation.:)

While I agree it's an icky thing, I'm pretty sure I would prefer breathing through a vomity regulator to drowning. Of course, if there is a clean one available, then yeah.

I would do it through my backup reg, which I can strip to a bare shell underwater with no tools. I'll have to check on the ability of my soon-coming Zeagle Flathead VI to be easily stripped, as my new backup takes a tool to do it. Of course, unless you didn't chew good, it should all go out the exhaust.

SteveC:
Whats the best way to vomit underwater? I've been told that the best way is to vomit through the regulator, but was wondering if this might cause a problem with the next breath. Maybe holding the reg firmly in your hand but removing it from the mouth might be safer?

Thanks,
Steve

Hmm, they teach this in openwater I. All you guys posting to change regs -- are you newbs?? You never remove your regulator (or try to change to an octo) to puke, cough, or anything else. Duh. If you involuntarily take a breath after puking, you could drown.
:shakehead
