Ron Brandt---------for your information, my "credentials" disappeared from the side bar awhile back. I was told by SB officials that there was a glitch and would be notified when it was fixed.

Secondly, in my longest post, I offered my diving history-----you must have missed that.....but I'll say it again-----Cozumel for 17 years and more than 5000 dives.

Thirdly, you have a very short memory, my friend, as I believe, once upon a time, you were actually trying to dive with me when our mutual Canadian friend was unavailable---ring a bell? (I have the same name on all the forums and seriously resent your calling me a troll...........and MORE seriously resent your accusing me of being someone else. You really should do your homework).

Fourth, my instructor number is none of your business.

And last, I apologize to everyone here------I really had no idea that this is a private forum where only longtime members are allowed to post. Won't happen again.

Betsy, ya know this board is a great source of information but anytime someone new comes on to it and they say anything different than the majority it seems like people will attack and get all defensive with questions. I watched this happen alot when I was just a reader for a couple months before I decided to post. Then when finally joined up and decided to start posting questions and reply’s I was very careful about what I say. People get offended way to quick on this board.

For example the Albatross charters thread. Because a couple new people posted singing the praises of them, people started jumping on their cases. I suppose it looked rather fishy, I suppose a "troll" or someone looking to do self promotion could do this.... but ya know.... those people were not lying. I dove with Albatross charters back in January and they are not a bad dive op. Just because they are not the popular dive opp. choice of Cozumel Scuba board posters doesn't mean they don't exist and it doesn't mean they are a bad choice.

Same with you. Just because you are new to this board does not give people the right to say that you are not who you are. It’s just silly. :shakehead

Girl, 54 more days and I will be down there to have that beer and chat about you know who!!!:beerchug: Ha ha ha. Got my t-shirt ready yet?:rofl3:

Ron, put the beer down and chill out.

Betsy has been arond for a LONG time. She is not a troll or a fake and her credentials outweigh even yours my friend. So what if she doesn't contribute on the instructor forum...so what if she doesn't have alot of posts. I only really have time to monitor this forum...OCCASIONALLY I get in the Instructor forum or the basic scuba discussion...but most people (me included) don't have time to read every forum let alone every thread.

More ops on here than you know Ron...not just from here and the mailand area, but from all over the world...and why is this always so important to you and such a problem to you at 3:00am?

This will be my last entry into what has, IMO, become a silly argument. We are not even talking about the same thing.

I never said, implied, or meant to imply, that you guys don't know what you are doing, but give me a little credit, too. If, upon reaching safety stop depth, conditions are such that what I do would not work, I wouldn't do it.

Peace,

Sorry if I misunderstood you Gordon....no harm no foul :)

I noticed earlier this week that everyone's profile info disappeared. If you do want it back just click on "User CP" in the blue bar and that will take you to your "control panel" Then click on "Edit Profile" and that's where you'll be able to add whatever info you want to share.

I've seen you post regularly on non-dive related Cozumel boards and you are always going out of your way to help people (and animals too. The rescue attempt for Steve's pup got me very teary). You've been in Cozumel a long time and you've been diving for a long time. I think you'll add alot of good info to this board.

Adding a local perspective is always good. There's no reason that dive operators and/or DM's shouldn't participate. I like seeing new posters here when they have something to add. Reading the same recommendations and opinions from the same people would get pretty boring. Stick around and chime in at will.

And when needed there's always the smiley's :shakehead :mooner: :crafty: :light:  :rofl3:

I am an instructor and not registered in the instructors forum and don't care to be...I like participating with the common folk...hahaaa...does that make me a troll too?

Let's all validate Betsy now...Betsy, don't you feel validated?

Sometimes this board cracks me up...like religion..."well, my religion is the right religion because it is mine, and well, yours must be wrong because if it was right, I'd be the same as yours and not mine, which is right, so yours must be wrong...."

Betsy;
I really do appologize for the way I worded that post....Truly.

Like someone else stated , some of "us" get defensive. I've been on "the board" for over 5 years and a "new poster" does look suspicious. Everyones data disapearing with the server change did not help. Just bad timing on my part, along with the stress of the weather changing up here.(I suffer from SED and it kicked in hard this fall giving me all kinds of grief).

I have only been diving with our mutual Canadian friend for the last 3 years, although I have known him MUCH longer.......I do not ever remember trying to book a dive with any other dive op. If I can't get a boat with the op I want ,I simply don't dive, or I do a shore dive. A guy I used to travel to Coz with may have,as he allways looks for better deals.....

I did go out on Mike Gerus' big boat during a bit of a Norte about two years ago though...but I know M & M and have donated to the animal shelter with them......

Once again...I do appologize for the way I "attacked"....certainly not really me.Just a bad night full of stress and no sleep.

Have a great "weekend"..if you get one. :)

(SDD)'s (seasional defectional disorder).......

I finally sat down today and read this whole thread. Whew :) Christi and Betsy, thanks for all the real world Cozumel diving insights on this thread. I don't envy the dive ops in Cozumel as they probably have to deal with a lot people who have much less experience than they do diving in Cozumel that try to impose their (misguided) will. That has to be tough to deal with all while trying to keep their butts safe and maintaining a postive attitude in the process. Hats off to you.

There seems to be a bigger issue here than diving technique. It never ceases to amaze me that people feel they have some sort of right to dictate the goings-on in other countries. The way I see it, the people of Cozumel have decided to share their treasure with us in exchange for a reasonable fee and the following of a few simple rules. Why people feel the need to force their agenda in that situation baffles me. If you don't like the rules in Cozumel, then don't dive there. Go dive in your local mud hole where you can dictate the rules and be king of the puddle :)

Me, I'd rather dive in Cozumel when I get the chance. I love the people, the island, the beautiful reefs, etc. and I am very grateful they let me come share it with them. Out of respect to their openess and hospitality, I try to follow their rules and customs the best I can. I even try to learn the language and speak it when I am able (although I suck at it :)) I feel that's the least I can do in return.

Hear, Hear!!! A voice of reason.
