I'm not sure ifI shoudl put this in Great Lakes or Newbies... but...

well I ust got certified and I don't really know any other divers. I really want to get out there and dive but I face two problems

1) I don't know WHERE to go
2) I don't know who to go with or where to find someone to go with

Guess the first thing that you should do is really introduce yourself to the folks here, let us know where you are, and what kind of diving you are interested in doing.

As it turns out, some friends and myself are going to the quarry at Gilboa, Ohio on Saturday 6 November for some diving. Gilboa is 12 miles west of Findlay, Ohio just down I-75 a ways from where I live in Frankenmuth, MI.

We should be there about 10:00 or so in the morning, bring your gear and join us, there are plenty of shallow dives available at Gilboa suitable for a new diver.

Welcome to the Scubaboard! Its a good place to learn about the sport and meet lots of new folks who also dive...

I would reccomend doing an internet search and finding out if there are any local dive clubs. If you have one in your area it would be a good place to find people who actully dive. They will usually have regular events to keep you going as well as discounts on charters and dive trips. Don't just rely on your local dive shop for info as if they are not associated with the club they will just shrug their shoulders and say" I don't know of any clubs" Best of luck.

I agree with Tom, the only way you will make new dive buddies is to introduce yourself and state your intentions. Anyway, hope you find a dive buddy or two in your quest. BTW Tom, I hope to be out there on the 6th, got a new 95 I want to try out, if I don't do that sooner than that.....Got Stress and Rescue this week.

1) We need to know WHERE you are. "Great Lakes" covers a huge area.

2) Stay tuned to this forum. Getting togeather to dive is what we're all about!

Welcome aboard.

I see you are in OH....whereabouts?

I'm in Dayton about 1.75 hours south of Gilboa and there are several places here in OH to dive.

Good advice. I'm a fairly new diver, 49 dives, and new to this board this year. But I've already met and dove with three people from this forum this year. All good guys and had enjoyable dives every time.

I did two dives at Gilboa today and we were the only ones there. It was a great time.

Welcome to the board. I'm one of the "good guys" that bladephotog dove with at Gilboa. I live less than an hour from there and will go just about any time asked during the week. Most weekdays I and any dive buddy I can find will be the only ones there, especially this time of year. If you would like to meet there some weekday, PM me and we'll set up a date and time.
