Walter:
My son is older than you.

Yet another example of lying with statistics. People were not dying of old age at 35. People at the time of the American Revolution, who died of old age, lived as long as they do today. The biggest reason our average age is so much higher today than then is infant mortality was horrendous then. Additionally, medical science has improved so that many injuries and diseases that were death sentences 200 years ago are minor problems today.

At least three of men who signed the Declaration lived to be quite elderly - John Adams lived to age 90, Thomas Jefferson to 83 and Charles Carroll of Carrollton to 95.

You are totally right, life expectancy is all about infant mortality. But when does accuracy matter to a comedian like Seinfeld?

FF - I'll be more than twice your age next week, and I'm not old yet. It's just a matter of perspective. Just don't laugh at my cellulite.

Walter, we need to go diving...next time I visit Mom in Boca del Lago Vista.

In the movie The Guardian Kevin Costner's wizened friend who owns the Coastie Bar talked about growing older. She talked almost five minutes and her reasoning hit very close to home. When the movie comes out on disk I plan to copy her theory and frame it. I can't remember word for word what she said but in summary - "Growing older is a badge of honor - wear it proudly."

I hear you. It's my 32nd today. I have my advanced cert..haven't used it a whole lot (you know, time/money tug-of-war), but have been on some very cool dives nonetheless. I'm worried about the health of the world's oceans, etc, however. I hope your daughter will be able to know what a beautiful thing an ocean can be. Cheers
