Theres a LOT more to Georgia Diving than just Gray's reef. However, don't get me wrong Gray's reef is great to dive when the conditions are right. Here's a video that I shot at a spot we named the anchor ledge. The anchor is from the civil war wreck Oconee. I have been diving here 20 years and I still stumble across new ledges & reefs here all the time..

Great video....Where in GA were you? I live in Augusta, and all I ever hear about is Gray's reef. How far off shorewas this dive and what were the depths?

Thanks,
Rob Gee

Thanks!

I took the video in 85' of water not far from the Savannah Snapper Banks about 30 miles offshore. You do not get decent viz here until you get about 15 to 20 miles offshore. Thats why the charters are a little more expensive here. I often dive 50-60 miles offshore here. There are many ship wrecks, Talmadge Bridge rubble, M1 Army tanks, NY Subway Cars, & miles of natural reefs & ledges off the georgia coast. In addition to that there are 8 US Navy towers offshore here that are great to dive on too. One Navy tower has a video camera underwater! A great way to see what the current viz is. .
Grays Reef gets a lot of publicity and thats mostly because of NOAA PR stuff. However Gray's is a great place to dive when the viz is good.
Here's more links to a few of the many reefs along our coast...
