Had the opportunity to dive the Georges Valentine wreck off the House of Refuge in Stuart today and yesterday- visibility is spectacular right now off the beaches of the Treasure Coast. The Georges Valentine wreck continues to be an excellent shallow water dive site right here on the Treasure Coast. The big swell last week has transported even more sand away from the wreck site exposing areas that have been buried for years. Much of the debris field south of the main hull section has been uncovered exposing 100+ year old teak timbers in relatively good conditions, ballast stones, and multiple brass fittings, fixtures and port holes. Interestingly, the boiler just inshore is completely covered with sand. This dive should be considered a MUST DO while the wreck remains uncovered. Swing by the shop for a detailed briefing on how to dive the wreck. The Valentine is recognized as an underwater archaeological preserve making it a crime to damage or remove any artifacts.
