Genesis GS2000 vs Titan LX

Going to purchase my first regulator tomorrow and was wondering if anyone felt like offering some last minute advice.

Im between the Genesis GS2000 - GR450 and the Aqualung Titan LX

I will be doing recreational diving. 50 degree water would be the coldest I get in, mainly 60+ degree water.


Both of these regulators are similar in price, of the numerous features and what not the one that stands out most is the genesis offers 2 HP ports where the titan only offers one. I havent purchased my computer yet but would prefer to get air integrated.

Both are extremely great regs. I would only point out, like you said, the difference in the number of ports....If you go with either, be sure to get the cold water kit added...I know the Genesis is about $20 installed...not sure about the Titan...

Have you tried both of them yet? Although breathing on the surface isnt breathing underwater, you can still tell a difference in breathing qualities between both which will some what translate to UW usuage

I personally love my air integrated computer...I had a Sherwood Wisdom and just recently upgrade to a datamask...Some will tell you that you dont need it, but you also dont need things like cruise control, but it makes life easier (bad analogy I know)

No I have not had a chance to breathe either of these regs. I was leaning on the titan LX but recently a really good friend of mine swears by the genesis. So was just hoping to get more feedback from the good folks of this board.

I definitely would not call the genesis "extremely great", that's kind of ridiculous. And forget about the cold water kit if you're diving in the 50s and 60s. Especially with the genesis, because it's already a sealed design.

The genesis reg is a flow-by piston that is very similar to sherwood 1sts, except instead of the dry bleed it has a little schrader valve (like a tire valve) in the 1st stage to equalize pressure in the ambient chamber. This valve is supposed to replaced and tested at every service, which is not cheap and requires a special testing tool. The second stage is basically an oceanic style unbalanced downstream with an adjustment knob.

The titan is a very popular mid-level diaphragm first/downstream second that you almost never hear any complaints about.

Anything below 55 degrees should be cold water compatible. Will they run into an issue, most likely not, but diving 55 degree water and going to a depth of 40 feet or so can drop that temp 10-20 degrees in just a few feet. Its always good to be prepared and for the $20 or so, I would still recommend based on there depths

I love my Titan LX. I recently thought about upgrading to a "high end" reg and after reading lots of reviews and peoples opinions I decided that my Titan LX is as good or better than most for what I do. (Warm water < 120 fsw) I thought about going air integrated on the computer but I don't intend to get wrist mount with the sensor. I want an AI on the hose. Maybe I'll keep a backup SPG in my dive bag if I do this.

I do not think the esteemed Mattboy said test and replace, he said replace and test. Any time you replace any component on a regulator (any gear for that matter) it must be tested. If a special tool is involved, it adds to the reason for not buying this unit. If one is going to DYI then a special tool is one more thing to add to your list, if you are going to take it to a shop, that is one more expense you will incur, if you have problems while traveling....well pray that who ever you take it to has that tool and a replacement part.

No, if one is going to buy a regulator for it's simplicity, then having a unique feature such as this is goes against reason.

If i only had these two regs to choose from, i would go with the Titan Lx.
Parts and service centers for aqualung are everywhere, plus i havnt heard of one complaint about the Titan reg.
i think it is a time tested product,based on the US Divers Conshelf.
If you wanted a real smoothe reg i would go with An Apex XTX 50 or XTX 200 Really $$$ But a lifetime Reg, that will handle anything you throw at it. while breathing effortlesly

My girlfriend uses a Titan LX, we regularly dive in 48 degree below 100 fsw...has never give her a problem.
