Hi, I just received my open water certification this past weekend (03/13/05) and we are off to Belize in 1-week. Just wondering if anybody had any tips on what to do while there, what not to do.

Welcome!! Any question you have, you can probably find a post about it in the archives, or just ask away and someone will steer you to an answer.

Good luck on your trip.

Hi, I just received my open water certification this past weekend (03/13/05) and we are off to Belize in 1-week. Just wondering if anybody had any tips on what to do while there, what not to do. Also, does anybody know the general rule on tipping your instructor after you obtain your certification? I know to tip on tours, etc. but about your instructor? I feel so rude that we didn't tip but was so excited about finishing that I didn't think about it.

Tipping is dependent on where you are in the world. Americans tip generoulsy pretty much across the board (world). The divemasters make most of their money from tips around here. I believe it's usually about 10 - 15% of the total dive cost while you're here.
I"ve never heard of tipping an instructor after getting certified. Why bother? They (we) make so much moeny anyway. (haha, yeah right)
As far as what to do while here....just be cool and relax. Belize has the genuine friendliest people I've ever encountered as a whole.

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest!

Welcome to the Board!

As far as tipping your Instr - maybe a gift cert. or a nice dinner, a bottle of wine something along that line would be nice. Not sure where you did your OW class.
