My experience is only in Thailand (with the same company).

On company sites I checked, there are options for Nitrox, 15KG tanks (I think it is KG, could be Litres - sorry for my ignorance). If I don't go for either, am I going to be matched with someone on my 7 day trip? Or is it understood that people pick one of these options?

On my Thai trips, divers are divided into groups who follow their guides. Do people in Egypt go off with their buddy and do their own thing?

Is the price for a liveaboard fixed (as on the company web site) or does it rise/fall as the price of flights and accomidation.

How has the food been in your experience?

option : it's 15 liters tanks (steel, thus heavier than 12 liter aluminium)

a good company will offer nitrox free (if certified diver)

the groups go with or without guide, following their experience and wishes, so you can go alone with your buddy (after a check dive)

price is usually fixed but you can buy a flight separately and contract directly with the liveaboard company, sometimes less expensive... as it is your first time I should advise you not to do this

Since I started scuba diving (always in Asia) in 2009 the guides always put my equipment together. Do they do that in Egypt? I am going to have to focus to avoid blowing off the o ring when I am taking equipment apart.

I have time to do my homework, in case I will need to put my equipment together and take it apart. I will be OK if I know I have to do this in advance.

Do you mean that the price includes a flight? These seem pretty cheap if they include a flight.

Which airport do people fly into? I see Marsa Alam is really close, but with fewer flights. I understand that companies often offer free transfers.

What is the breakfast on Egyptian live aboards? I understand I will be out of the bacon zone..

Do companies generally charge about the same for equipment rental?

I feel a lot better to have cleared up my main questions in advance. Normally I leave everything to the last minute.

>breakfast is closer to continental style with eggs, toast, cereal, etc.

I am doing a fast at the moment. Can't stop thinking about food. Thailand is great for liveaboards. After the first dive you come back to breakfast of bacon, fried mushrooms, eggs, fresh fruit, etc. But I will be looking forward to Egyptian dishes. I was in Turkey in June. Great food.

In my experience, you have to put your equipment yourself in Egypt liveaboards.

Honestly, I would not dive with equipment someone else put together anyway.

Food is always good in Egypt , dive resort or liveaboard. of course I have not been to all possible boats and hotels but never heard anyone complaining.

If you have Advanced OW or equivalent and if they see that you are comfortable, most probably you will be diving with your buddy without a guide most of the time.
