Since I last dove I have put on a little weight. I started working out and dieting better and so far I've lost just over 30 pounds. All of my gear with the exception of my wet suit still fit me, just a bit snug. I'm going to a pool tomorrow to try out my old stuff and see what needs replaced for sure (I know my mask doesn't seal right anymore).

In your opinions, as long as the old BCD still works, should I keep using it even though it is a bit snug, or pony up the money and get a new one?

Dive it in the pool. If you are comfortable in it still. Have it serviced and keep using it.

Awesome job on getting yourself in better shape! :clapping: Keep it up and a bit snug won't be a problem for much longer.

Welcome back!

A little snug (loosened everything all the way?) isn't horrible. I'd see how it fits in the pool. If it doesn't constrict your breathing you're good to go.

Are there more weight changes expected soon?

Noticed it's been 6 (7?) years since you were active, glad you're getting back to it.

...And glad you're starting with a pool dive to check out your gear! From personal experience, ease into it. I had 6 year surface interval from a blown ear, when I returned to diving my mind remembered the skills but my body needed time to catch up.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the support guys! Yes I do plan on losing some more. The end goal is be back to the weight I was at when I bought this gear, so if I'm going to get back to that size, I didn't want to buy new big gear.

It's weird, getting back into diving after being gone for so long. I'm a PADI DM, and I'm reviewing the very basics of diving.

Depending on what BCD you have, the cumberbun strap may be adjustable where it attaches to the backplate. I was the opposite. I was about 40 pounds he ier last year when I bought a used set of gear. I got an aqualung pro xlt bcd. It was right at the verge of being too big, and I lost 40 pounds since then. To make it usable, I added a crotch strap to keep it from riding up. I went to the pool 3 times in the last month preparing for a dive trip next week. Crotch strap worked great, and as I was tearing down my gear after my last pool dive, I realized the waist strap had a velcro adjustment where it attaches. I snugged up both sides, and now it tightens up where it shouldn't ride up on me.

Maybe yours can loosen up some, but definitely just keep losing weight since you're on track.

For anyone wondering, I was in the pool today. Everything but my mask works perfectly even after sitting for 5 years. I was surprised that my skills were still pretty sharp after a try or two, and my buoyancy is still ok. Need to fine tune since I weigh so much more than I did, but I think I’ll be alright.

Glad to hear it!

Gear behaved itself?
