So far, divers participating in the Gulf Coast Lionfish Coalition's events have killed 5,294 Lionfish this year! The first 1,914 were entered during the two-day roundup this Spring, and the remaining 3,380 were entered during four one-day shootouts that were spread out over the dive season.

Remember the final GCLC event is this weekend. It sure would be nice to add another 2,000 lionfish corpses to the 2014 total!

I'm thinking only a drop in the bucket...maybe next year they can 10-fold that number, but still a drop in the bucket..

A drop in the bucket, yes, but we actually have a few sites that are being kept lionfish-free, and this effort has saved millions of native fish.

Our last event for the year yielded 2,394 lionfish, which is a record in Florida (by a huge margin). The folks at GCLC are already working on additional projects for the next year, and we're hoping to at least top our total count from 2014, which ended up being 7,688!
