Hello all, First trip to GC for the wife and I. I have been trying to do my best at research in the short time from when we booked. Scheduled to arrive Thursday evening and staying on SMB. As of now will be heading over to the East end to dive with Ocean Frontiers on Friday. Also have a boat dive reserved with Cayman U on Sunday. Looking to add a couple shore dives in on Saturday. I was wondering if there was still any silverside activity, or if we have missed it for this time? If not, I guess we end up at turtle reef and/ or lighthouse point. We will have a car and all of own gear, so we are pretty flexible. Thank you!

Parts of Eden Rock were absolutely packed with Silversides when we dove there on Aug 11th, so you might still be in luck. Here's a short clip of part of it (need to edit the longer clips with the more denslely packed sections):

If you are diving with OF, try to get to one of the the corner sites (Pat's Wall, Jack McKenny's Canyons or the Maze) if you want to see the "men in the grey suits" - some clips from Aug 9th/10th:

Turtle Reef/Macabuca (2 dives - go left and right) and Lighthouse Point (2 dives: left on the miniwall and right/follow the lines out to the main wall) never disappoint and were great dives this year as well - lots of Hawksbill Turtles on the Lighthouse Point dives (saw 5 different ones).

How many days will you be there? Have fun!
Late Thursday flight from Mia on Cayman air. then have the afternoon leg back on the new Southwest route into Ft Laud. So, just quick weekend trip! Sure wish we had longer. So much diving!!

GREAT videos Joneill. swimming through the schools must have been amazing. And thanks so much for the tips.

Remember to include the Wait to Fly after Scuba rule in your calculations when planning dives. Have fun!

Call Eden Rock b4 you drive down and ask if they're still in now. 1(345)949-7243

It's not a great dive if they're not and you'd be better off spending your limited time north at TR/Lighthouse. Also check the cruise schedule since the port is about 500 yds. away. ...

There's a Silversides site out on the East side also so ask OF about it. It would be a boat dive.

Nearby there's a third option at Cobalt Coast also - shorter access to the main wall. When it was Divetech on-site they'd drop you off out there if they had time, IDK if Reef Divers offers the same.
If you've only got time for one dive at Turtle Reef - go left. A short way down around 50' is:

Enjoy your trip. On your Friday dive with OF consider a lunch at Tukka's. It is there fresh fish Friday special, but worth a meal any day. We have been there for dinners on friday and the fisherman drop of their catch and their kitchen is cleaning the catch per order on the deck.

Eagle Rays at OF is run by Tukkas and the food quality is very good as well (even though you might not suspect it from first glance, casual looking snack shack looking place) Lion fish tacos at ER are excellent and a good value.

Turtle Reef is worth a try and combine with a meal or a drink and appetizer at Macabuca. A nice dive followed by a cold drink and a cracked conch appy one of our favorite combos. Try to do it once every trip
