Hmmm, maybe give it a miss and go back to indonesia again? I want to be wowed!

Indonesia definitely wowed me more overall. The SS Yongala also wowed me - an amazing, breathtaking, wreck. The history and presence of it is very commanding. It is incredibly beautiful and I think a miss if you did not dive it. I think Pup's recommendations of the outer GBR/Osprey Reef is worth diving but if you don't have the time, money, or schedule availability (the operator or yours) to do it this time, you should still do it eventually. In the meantime, you still have lots of other options. :)

If you want to be wowed take the Ribbon Reef trips as suggested. Far more marine life than Indonesia which is not protected Reef. Also remember there is a lot of reporting in the GBR do its in the news more. Indo reef is in warmer waters so you really think that it wont be affected there ???

I have to say, I have dived the 'outer reefs' several times and have not been at all impressed. I was led to believe that the ribbons and osprey were the best on offer, however after going on a trip to these areas, I can not say I would do it again. The live aboard was a lot of fun, great crew, great food, however, the diving was very ordinary! An enormous amount of smashed coral (recent cyclones I believe), visibility was good, lots of reef sharks out around osprey, however, the coral was not great and marine life was less than impressive. In fact my daughter thought our local dive was better, I don't agree with this, but will say the diving in SE QLD certainly produces more large creatures and in particular more variety of large creatures on any one dive. I am glad I have been to the ribbons and osprey, but could not advise someone else to spend the money I did to visit the area...just my opinion
