I opened up the inner motor compartment of one of my 2 gavin scooters today and found that there small amount of moisture as well as salt crystals in there plus what looks like really really fine sand or dust. Clearly there is a leak and the idea is reenforced by a vacuum test.

the motor still works. But im concerned, what exactly should i do? and how do i find where the leak is? is there a way for me to remove the salt in the motor???? how bad is it that this happened?

When I flood, I soak the whole motor in Alcohol and let it dry, then I replace the shaft seals.

like how much alcohol? like just get a bottle of 70% and dump it in there?

also how do you actually replace that seal. ive broken down the tail to the seal but have no idea how to take the spring assembly apart??

I don't think of it as a big deal. Yes, I pour the alcohol right in. enough to break up the salt. If the salt won't come with the alcohol, I use distilled water, then alcohol.

Pull the circlip using pin pliers. Get a set at the auto parts store if you don't have one. Remove the spring and 2 washers and don't mess up the order it came off so you can see how to put it back. Then remove the seal, being careful not to scratch the aluminum anodizing. Do not touch the seal with your fingers, as the oil from your fingers can mess it up. I grease the aluminum seal housing lightly when I put a new one in, it makes it go in a little easier. Use silicon. PROP ASSY.jpg

When I clean the motor to my satisfaction, I'll soak it right down in Corrosion Block. WD-40 would work as well.

make sure there is no rust started on the magnet field ,before you reassemble or you'll be taking it a part again later. and check the brushes and brush board. salt water can do bad things to them. And make sure there is no pitting on the shaft where the seal rides.
