Here’s what divers typically see during this season:
- Hammerhead sharks – Large schools are common, especially around cleaning stations near both islands.
- Galápagos sharks and blacktip sharks – Frequently sighted alongside hammerheads.
- Manta rays and mobula rays – Appear more often in warmer waters during this time.
- Whale sharks – Less frequent than in the June–November peak season, but occasional sightings still occur, especially early in December.
- Dolphins, tuna, and large schools of jacks and barracuda – Often seen in the blue water or passing by during drift dives.
- Marine iguanas and sea lions – While more common near the central islands, they are sometimes seen around the dive sites when resting on rocky outcrops.
Overall, December to April is a calmer, warmer season ideal for photographers and those looking for good visibility and classic Galápagos shark action.
