I have a PL1 with the olympus housing and am going in mid june for a 7 day live aboard trip to Galapagos.

The check out dive is scheduled for the first weekend in June at a quarry in Ohio and I would like to have my camera rig finalized to get a lot of dry land and 2 days of wet testing before the trip. So I need to order my strobe (and tray) soon.

The current budget is stretched to the max and I need to get only one strobe for now preferably used.

What strobes should I be looking for?

I am leaning towards the the inon s2000 but am concerned about cost and wondered what other options are good.

Thank you

Mike

First off, the S2000 should be a good choice. I use the D2000 with an EPL2 and really like it.

What is your experience level? The Galapagos is very challenging diving conditions.
You really want to be comfortable with your diving ability and ability to handle a camera before tackling that.
Some dives are certainly easier than others, but on the whole, a lot more difficult than the Caribbean.

When I dove there, I had a small P&S and I left my strobe behind on many dives because of challenging conditions.
I would let my camera dangle by the wrist strap at times and simply forgot about it as I concentrated on a certain condition.
I have a fair number of dives (over 200) so I'm not the most experienced, but certainly not a beginner either.
There are certain dives there I would not take my epl2 if I went back.

sell the car and hock the cat, get the best strobes you can: When are you ever going to go back there!

I agree with the comments about the conditions and the degree of experience needed. Around Darwin and Wolf it can be hairy: But the rewards are worth it. I would not leave my rig behind because of those conditions though, because the current brings the big animals, so that is where you want to be...

Have a great time!
