The Facebook poster is from Belize, originally from Tanzania and a little difficult to understand...

Éric died today … on the second dive … 71 years old … 8 years without diving … no refresh … was sent on the safety stop alone … found him laying on the rocks regulator out 12 meters … unconscious … maybe 7 mn … on board oxygen tank empty … staff not trained … only clients helping … but too late

Hello Don, this Eric's brother, Brian. We have gotten almost no info about the accident. Many odd statements from Harry, owner. Were you on the boat? My family is devastated, his only child spoke to him right before dive. Is there any way we can connect? It would be so important. Please let me know.
Sincerely, Brian Scigliano

Brian, I am sorry for your loss but I was not there. I only quoted a report posted on Facebook in a Scuba Accidents group. That report has since been heavily changed but the poster did state that she gave an official report to the police; see: Bei Facebook anmelden

The original poster there is named Corinne Tarnowka and you can see other posts from her on the incident at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1612046102342961/user/100002049351296/

Here is her Facebook page: Corinne Tarnowka

And finally, the alleged dive company is listed on a Trip Report page with good and bad reports both at https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attract...uerto_Villamil_Isabela_Galapagos_Islands.html

Looks like it was a common practice and expectation from that dive shop that …
When I went to the Galapagos it was made really clear that if you went low on air you are responsible to do your own safety stop. Id hope you'd have a buddy to go with you. They aren't babysitters they are guides and stay with the group until the last person is low on air or wants to go up. We were given all sorts of devices to call for help. You needed min 100 dives. No proof required. No excuse for no oxygen or not helping.
Quoting a post from a diver on the FB thread …
