Thanks mattiedread,
We are planning to do the Galapagos Aggressor in May 2004. We have 6 friends coming along too! I looked up your trip report - thanks for mentioning it. I'm going to share it with the other divers in our group.

You'll be spoiled forever! You may not see too many Whale Sharks by going in May. They seem to get more abundant as you get into July.

Yes, we're all excited. We chose May because they happened to have their "Bring A Friend" week for the Dive the World club charter - so, we are definitely bringing friends - some of whom are also in the DTW club - so we wound up with a good deal, and at a time when everyone in the group could all go.

I haven't seen much posted about Galapagos in May - it would be nice to see the Whale Sharks, but it sounds like there will be plenty new to see!

If anyone has been to Galapagos in mid/late May, please let me know what it was like!

Thanks!

Don't worry...it will be a terrific trip. Aggressor does a super job. You'll go out to Wolf and Darwin where only about 1200 divers get to dive in a calendar year.

Dave

3 trips in June on the Galapagos Aggressor - we saw whale sharks on just 1 of 3 trips

If you REALLY want to see whalesharks I`d move your trip to Aug if you can to increase the chances

We were just there over July 4th this year. It was the most incredible experience of my 43 years! The boat and crew was phenomenal! When we got on board the Aggressor in Baltra, we did our check out dive that evening then did 2 dives @ Seymour the next morning. By 3:00 pm we were off on a 17 hour run up to Wolf where we dove all day on Sat. After the last dive there we did the remaining 5 hours to Darwin where we dove all day Sunday and Monday morning. By lunchtime on Monday we were headed back south (22 hours).
No dive trip to the Galapagos would ot be complete w/o diving Wolf and Darwin.
Thousands and thousands of hammerheads, galapagos sharks, silky sharks, dolphin, manta rays, sailfish, turtles, the largest schools of jacks and tuna that you will ever see, and of course "Mr Big". We saw 17. I understand that the whale sharks don't really start coming in until June.
The currents up north are unbelievable. You hang on for dear life until the large shadow (whale sharks) comes out of the blue. You swim as hard as you can to stay up with them. By the time they pass you usually can't see the rocks or the bottom, so you just drift in the blue. That is an incredible experience.
We saw whale sharks on the last dive at Wolf and every dive at Darwin. At one point got the opportunity to snorkel just a few feet above one. Incredible experience.

:)
Going there at end of October through first week in November! Hope to see the big boys. Looks like a good probability. Enjoyed the write up!
