heading back to Galapagos Sept 07, looking to add a few days on the back end in the Amazon region of Ecuador. Anyone done a jungle lodge in that area?

We're looking at La Selva Lodge and Sacha Lodge.

I have been in to the Equadorian Amazon. Good fun once we off'd our "guide". We did not stay at a lodge but with locals which we traveled to their village via dug out canoe. A lot more fun but certainly more wild. The town of Lago Agrio at the time was a pretty wild town.

Spent some time up in Baños after Galapagos and took day trips to the mountains and jungle. Like Scared Silly, did the dug-out canoe trip (it didn't do anything for me). Better trips involved hiking to waterfalls, canyons, and picturesque jungle spots. From Baños we rented a cab for the day, the cabbie specialized in taking tourists to different scenic places. At the time (2001) it was amazingly cheap, about $40US for the entire day. Recommended.

There are many lodges in the Amazon but we're staying at the popular Sasha Lodge (http://www.sachalodge.com.ec/) after the Galapagos and a couple dives off a sailboat - nothing extraordinary, just the usual tour of islands. I'm also excited by the Manatee Explorer (http://www.discoveramazonia.com/Ecuador/manatee.htm) which is a hotel-boat floating down the Napo river from Coca where many of the lodge trips depart from.
