I experience very bad dry mouth, I just take in some water, swish it around and spit it back out. I don't dive saltwater too much.

Have you looked into one of those apollo bio-filters

Being well hydrated before the dive seems to help me.

They make a modified sort of camelback for divers. I knew a girl in Bermuda who used one but I can't remember anything about it. Someone out there must know what it is. You might end up gaging on that too though if you have a sensitive reflex.

1. Hydrate fully 12 hours prior to a dive. Drinking just before the dive doesn't put the fluid in the body fast enough. This will not CURE the problem as it is a normal occurance due to compressed air being dry.

2. Seacure mouthpieces help, but only to a point.

3. Sucking on a piece of hard candy (peppermint) to get the saliva flowing, just before a dive helps, but that varies from person to person. DO NOT attempt to dive w/ candy in your mouth, it's too much of a choking risk.

There used to be a device called "Scuda" on the market. It essentially is a pouch you can fill with water with a tube running to a special mouth piece. When you squeeze it you can get a drink of water.

My wife has used one for several years because of the dry mouth associated with the transdermal patch. She loves it!

Does anyone know how to limit or stop that drymouth gag I get from my regs.

I don't know about your experience, but, presume not too many dives under your belt yet? If so, try to relax, swim less, and your air consumption goes down, and gag's gone. It's only excess breathing drying your mouth...

If it's a really long dive (the 2:47 ScubUNO dive we did comes to mind), a Capri Sun is actually not a bad idea. It's a flexible packet-and-straw drink that stows quite well and doesn't have the problems a bottle would have, and it's *cheap*. :D
