G9 vs g10

Hi there,

What do people prefer for underwater photography, the Canon G9 or G10?
Are there any features which make one better than the other?

Well, aside from new G-9s being hard to find, the real deal maker/breaker is the RAW file shooting capability on the G-10. I suppose the wider lens capacity is a plus as well but shooting RAW is more than it's cracked up to be--if you do any post-processing work at all. Two nice cameras though (for P&S's). // ww

I've found that using Photoshop to do the color balance on a RAW shot is a lot easier than on a JPG.

I absolutely love my G9. It also takes great video. I am not sure what they really updated in the G10 but I know early on there were some quirks. You may want to do a search.

G10 = wider angle lens than the G9. That in and of itself makes the G10 a better choice.

I'm very curious as to what program you use to sharpen and get rid of backscatter on your G-10 photos? They are superb...very sharp and clear.

G9 has longer zoom "not appropriate for underwater use" G10 has wider angle "plus for underwater"
G9 has high quality video "semi HD video" @ 15fps, G10 has only 640X480 but at 30fps w/ a advanced codec My video with G10: YouTube - Casino Point Spring Diving 4 29 09 "watch in HQ"
G9 has Digic 3 processor while G10 has the new updated Digic 4
In my opinion the G10 has the edge on the G9 in every catergory for undewater usage besides video.

The G9 can use the INON Wide Angle 67mm lens to get a decent WA. I do not believe that it can be used by the G10 (in Canon or Ikelite housing) because it is a 28 vs 35 mm lens, so way too much vignetting to be useful. I understand that the WA choices with the G10 are available, but are they actually better?
G10 has the same size sensor as the G9 and tries to squeeze more resolution out of it. I am not convinced it works. In general you want more sensor area per pixel, not less. The G10 goes the wrong direction compared to the G9.
They are both awesome cameras. I decided to go with G9 instead of G10 because I had the INON WA lens already. At first I was intrigued by the 28mm wide angle, but when you try to get WA under water, the story changes.
From what I have seen, except for video, they take the same quality pictures.
