Today was the first day out with my new set up: G9 and Inon Z-240 strobe. It was a day trip out on a local boat - 4 dives. There were a number of photos that are blurred as I was too close to focus. I couldn't remember how to set macro mode until the 4rth and final dive. I did shot several in Macro mode with the Inon Z-240 however, these macro shots appears to be under exposed.

I do have to say the G9/Inon Z-240 shots as a whole are under exposed compared to the Oly 5060/YS-90 shots, but the macro were even more so in terms of under exposed.

What have others experienced? What macro set-ups do many of you use for the G9?

Thanks

A few questions on the underexposed shots: what were your strobe and camera settings?

did you have the Inon's at TTL-low or just normal TTL and did you try upping the ev dial (clockwise from 12 o clock)?

My camera settings: Aperture priority with the aperture set at 4.0. The strobe was set for normal TTL and the I played with the aperture setting dial starting at 4.0 down to 2.8 and up to 5.6.

With the Inon set at normal TTL, did you try to dial the ev controller a few notches clockwise to up the strobe strength? Still underexposed? Did you have the correct preflash cancel circuitry button setting on the Inon (small push button on the bottom right)? I think it's out for cameras with preflash. If it's incorrect, your strobe might be trying to dump at the preflash and then can't recycle fast enough for the actual exposure... thus resulting in underexposed shots...

Maybe set everything up again and try a few topside tests to confirm that the TTL is working properly, find some small toy/ figurine to shoot.

For a closeup macro shot (lens within a foot away from subject) and your camera set to f2.8-f5.6, the Z-240's should have plenty of power to light your subject.

What shutter speeds are you getting in aperture priority?

Thanks for the reply. I did take a number of surface shots prior and they turned out fine. I plan to take some more. One setting I couldn't remember was the change to macro mode. The button icons are hidden housing buttons.

I also looked at the instructions and the cancel circuit button out as it should be.

I am trying to figure how to get a pre-flash in all manual mode. The preflash occurs with shutter or aperture priority as well as the scenes, but not manual, and that is how I shot with the Oly 5060.
