hi can anyone help, g9 cameras flash has stopped working, camera did flood in august and stopped working for awhile but after while in airing cupboard it came back to life, but last week end flash stopped working, could a setting have been changed for this to happen or is it likely due to the flood??

MantaB--Sure a setting could have changed, have you dug out the manual to figure out if this is the case? First I'd press the flash control in back and make sure it is set to force flash (as opposed to auto or no flash--should be the center symbol). Next make sure you are in a mode that uses the flash (ie--not in movie mode etc.) There could be a few other weird things I suppose but basically if you have it setup to use like you would normally use it and get no flash you have to suspect post-flood damage.

Had a repairman tell me once why he would never touch a water damaged camera, especially salt water. The reason was the possibility of crystals eventually growing somewhere he couldn't see or clean, which would short out a circuit and he would get the blame--and have to give a free redo (and I hate to say it but this was w/ older film cameras, not today's electronic complexities). So, send it in for a repair if you can't make it flash? Dicey, even if someone would take in in to look (and I would ask before shipping it!). I doubt you would get any free looks either, so maybe factor that in.

Hmmm, any chance the hotshoe on top still works? Depending on your housing if the hotshoe would trigger a flash it may offer a work around solution via an external strobe. (A Canon housing wouldn't of course but others do.) Might have to start searching for that haystack needle--uh, I mean another G-9. Or dump the housing and start over? Good luck though, tough to lose a good dive friend! // ww
