Just wanted to post my first opinions on the Canon G10 with the Canon housing.

This was the first dive with this setup and my first real jump into underwater photography. I am using an Inon Z240-Type 4 strobe with ULCS arms. Camera and strobe both in full manual mode. The strobe is great, very robust and plenty of power and adjustment settings in a compact size. The housing is actually pretty good. All the camera functions are usable, its a bit hard to press some of the buttons with 7mm gloves on but I am sure would be much easier in warm water. I also think the shutter release is horrible (with gloves at least). Otherwise I am quite happy, I originally was looking at the FIX housing but decided to save the money towards a future dslr housing. It is a big learning curve with underwater photo for sure, but with some practice I am certain you can capture pretty amazing images with this camera underwater and shooting in full manual with more powerful strobes should be a good primer for future dslr use.

Great pics! This past weekend was also my first time to get my G10 / WPDC28 into the water. I do not have a strobe yet, so took in ambient light, adjusted for white balance. I posted a couple of pics in the Puerto Vallarta thread. The strobes sure do make a difference for your close-ups, but I also enjoy taking wide angle shots, which do not benefit from strobe. I was happy with the housing overall.

I agree, nice pics!

My canon housing showed up today, strobe will be here the end of the week, and Fantasea Big-Eye lens in 10 days or so. I was hoping to be able to dive it before we leave for Maui the end of the month, but if all else fails, we're planning on a day of shore diving before we do the boat trips to Lanai & Molokini, so should be able to get it dialed in then......

Pictures look great, the G10 is an amazing camera!!

Good shots especially for first time with the setup. I have mine but still waiting for the conditions to allow me out with it for the first time. I think our terrain and temps are pretty much like yours.

Thanks everyone. Def a learning curve from topside photography, but lots of fun!

Hexanchus - Let me know how the BigEye works for you, I have one on order as well.

scottfiji - Thanks for your great online guide... Been a constant source of reference for me! Anytime you want to dive just let me know!

I am in the process of switching over to a G10 with canon housing and an Inon S2000 strobe. Have also ordered a 10x subssee magnifer and adaptor... just love taking pics of the little critters.. :D

If anyone can post some pics I am interested in seeing how you block of the camera's internal flash so that the preflash still reads the data to send through the optic cable to the strobe but doesn't interfere with using the strobe's flash.

Unexposed but developed slide film, black tape (made black with marker).
