If you visit Reef Photo or Google and translate Japanese you will find that there is both a wet mount version and a housing ring mount version, .42X, fisheye lens which should yield around 165 degree diagonal FOV. It claims .42X magnification. Specs are sparse but this seems to be the best bet for a G10 based outfit with the FIX housing. Specs are sparse as I said, best I see is the .42X so I am making a few assumptions, it seems there are versions of this lens with a screw on wet mount in various mm sizes up to 67 mm but I find the 67 mm only on Japanese pages.

Sooo, if this is useful or might impact any decisions it would seem for a G10, if price is no object, then the aluminum FIX housing and ultra wide port would be the dealio.

I've never seen this one before:

But my buddy, who just moved to Florida :shakehead:, uses this one:

Fisheye FIX G10 15mm Wide Lens Port He has had some incredible results with it. It says its a 15mm Wide Lens Port. So what FOV would that get him? Here's a pic he just sent me from some Florida:shakehead: cavern diving:

Its a shame, the housing is already a grand and that port is over five hundred. Plus the G10 itself is another 500.

Any idea if that port is actually glass?

Lovely looking housing though.. I now have housing envy...and you can get a G10 for around 400...

Sadly, I will continue to use the $150 cannon housing.. it is my cross in life I must bear..

I would never get a dry fisheye.. much prefer wet lens that can be removed so you don't have to do the who day just taking fish eye pictures.

Yes it is glass. If you think $2K is expensive, price out a DSLR system with glass dome fisheye. :shocked2:

From what I have read, researched and been told the flat port 15mm lens is about 100 degree FOV diagonal and the dome port lens is around 160 degrees FOV diagonal or more, semi fisheye. I have been looking into this unit but have pretty much decided that I will wait for a housing to be developed for the Oly with the much larger Micro 4:3 sensor.

I saw some pictures posted on another site, they looked great but unfortunately I saw a little more corner blurring than I would have expected, more than I get with my Inon dome lenses soooo, that was disappointing but then, a few pics viewed via internet is hardly a good review. Stopping down a bit I have found helps greatly with that with my Inon stuff so I bet that would help here too and the faster optics and better sensor of the G10 might make that possible vs my 570.

I'm already there, brother.

Threadjack alert!
:hijack:

Right now I have a 50D and four lenses (that, totaled up, make the camera body look cheap in comparison). But today, 90% of my photography work is botanicals shot with a macro lens or art shots; dry land stuff.

Which is why I'm wanting something that I can dedicate to UW that will do wide angle and under/over shots (this is why glass domes are important, they shed water better than plastics), plus the odd macro shot of seahorses, pipefish, blennys, etc. for my trouble.

So I figure $750-ish for a T1i/500D, assuming $1500 for the Patima housing for the 500D (which was still "Korea only" the last time I checked), $300 for the 60mm macro port, and $950 for the Patima WA glass dome/hood to fit the 10-22mm wide angle. That's right up to $3500, before adding the actual lenses or strobes! Good thing I'm single, a married guy would probably never live to tell the tale of bringing that rig home! :rofl3:

OTOH, if I go the G10 route instead, it has to at least be in the same ballpark -- image quality-wise -- or I'd be better off doing the dSLR thing. See how $2K suddenly looks reasonable in comparison? :cool2:

Not a bad plan, assuming somebody steps up to the plate and actually manufactures the housing. Is there word yet on any takers?

You are welcome to hijack the thread, I only started the thread after seeing this new dome port for the G10/FIX.

As to word on housing for the Oly, nope, none yet but as soon as the lens selection broadens into the fisheye and ultra wide angle range and a few macro choices then I think there will be a housing. Crazy not too. But who knows.

As discussed above I did shoot the FL Spring photos with the Fisheye FIX G10 15mm Wide Lens Port and yes it has created stunning results. I have now just purchased the new FIX G10 Super wide fisheye and leaving for Grand Cayman in a few days. I will shoot both lenses down there in Cayman and post the results. The Fisheye housing is simply bad ass and unmatched in quality and is super compact. I did many beach dives in Cali and this setup is excellent.

I will now be selling my FIX G10 15mm Wide Lens Port at a very discounted rate if any Fisheye users would like a great deal on a super nice lens. I have only had about 30 dives with this lens. The images below I shot with this lens in Honduras.

More to come on the review between the two lenses. And yes I'm really wondering how the cornering will be on this new $600.00 lens, However one must remember we are still dealing with a point and shoot G10 here! Not a $10.000 SLR... My point and shoot with the right lens and filters at the right depth has created some very nice professional results.
