I am thinking of biting the bullet and getting a single strobe for my G10 in Canon housing. I am getting good results for stuff up close but anything over a few feet away blues out and I hope to correct that to some degree. What are my options for a good value strobe that is not huge with reasonable delay that will work with my housing?

Even the most powerful strobes will be limited to 3 to 6 feet at most. Beyond that distance ambient lighting predominates.

I'm using a sea&sea ys-27 strobe with my G10 and canon housing... I manage to get some pretty decent photos without much skill :)

I blacked out the area around the camera's flash with electrical tape on the housing, and use a fiber optic cable connected to a small gap in that area with velcro, I believe it was branded by sealife.

Unfortunately the ys-27 is discontinued, but a similar strobe in terms of strength would do you well. (personally I'm thinking of eventually getting a ys-110 for a second stobe)

Always go for the biggest strobe you can afford and will work with your housing. The sea & sea ys110 is a great strobe because it can be used with a optic cable and also later a a slave if you upgrade to a slr or want 2 strobe. Personally I use 2 ikelite ys51 strobes with my G11 and an Ikelite housing
