my brother in law is just getting certified and wants to get a full face mask and comm unit. Any suggestions or reviews of full face masks?

I can give you some points from my experience of what I have and use currently:

As far as the comm units OTS is about as good as you can get and support all of the following masks with units designed for each. On top of that you can invest to what ever level you want.
Just go to Ocean Technology Systems web site.

They also modified and developed their own mask now called the guardian: This is based on the Divator MK ll. Positive pressure surface air valve and a quality skirt for good seal around the face. A little tougher breather like the Divator AGA but a real nice mask.

The AGA I have is the silicone skirt surface valve positive pressure with OTS comm system. Unless you get an absolute perfect set you may get some air leakage around the temple, Not a flooding issue but a little excess in air consumption escape.

Currently I am using the Ocean Reef "Space" with comm. What I like about this one is the second stage is adjustable for maximum ease in breathing very much like a Scubapro G250V reg. as you hit depths. The skirt is a nice fit and comes in different sizes, also the Space has an adjustable exhaust port control that can turn the mask into a positive pressure mask.

All of the above utilize the same frequencies for through water communication and can talk to each other.

They all have great points with excellent support from the company.

If I would pick one it would probably be the Ocean Reef Space at this time being it is my personal favorite only because of the adjustable reg. In closing probably stay away from the Ocean Reef Neptune only because for a few dollars more the Space has some improvements that are well worth it.

Enjoy

I know nothing of these but have wondered what kind of redundence there is if any? Sh!t happens.

We utilize two seperate methods/ First I back up with an AIR ll on my BCD/with a pocket mask second is an octopus second stage with a seperate pony. You are right it "does Happen".

My wife & a friend of ours have used an AGA Interspiro (my wife's). Here's what I've heard from them:

1.) Fogging up is basically a non-issue with it.

2.) Don't have to fool with clearing it much, easier.

3.) That particular mask is somewhat harder to equalize in vs. a regular scuba mask, but doable.

4.) They go through air fast than with a standard scuba mask.

5.) The 2'nd stage doesn't disconnect, so if you had to use a buddy's octo., you'd have to pull off your FFM. I've heard there's some FFM brand/model out there where you can disconnect the second second stage so you can receive a buddy's octo. without having to take the whole thing off; I'd check into that and see if it's worthwhile before I bought one now.

6.) I have a beard so I've never tried it. I don't know how good a seal you'd get with facial hair a factor.

7.) It is a bit positively bouyant; that $100 lead weight might actually be worth buying (for this brand/model).

8.) The ability to breathe through your nose is nice.

My wife prefers diving it for general usage.

Richard.

We use the AGAs for our fire department, and we love them so far. A couple of us have been "borrowing" the mask for our personal dives too.
