NWGratefulDiver:
I just use my F10 in auto mode and let the flash do what it will. I typically dive in very low-light conditions, so need the flash anyway.

Only limitation I find with this camera is that, while it is exceptionally good (to my concern) for macro shots, the flash is a bit weak for anything further away than about three feet ... in lo vis conditions anyway.

Bob,

I was hoping to find specific UW tips on the F10/F11 here on SB, but to maximize use of your camera on land, I've found the Fujifilm message board on dpreview.com to be invaluable.

In case you're interested, here are some threads on tips and tricks. I'm compiling this material into a single word document, so PM me with an email if you'd like a copy of the work in progress.

PS, do you guys have a recommendation on where to purchase the housing online?

That's great information!

The problem with these cameras is that not a lot of ppl shoot them and some of the controls are limited so not much gets posted about them. Glad to see some information on them as from the photos I've seen they can do very nice pictures :D

Alcina -- I just read a post you had of general tips on shooting underwater and it was pretty useful. Re: aperture, however, I am not very clear on its effect on subject distance or light. Is it a bigger "lever" for distance or light conditions? I notice that when I lock shutter speed on my Fuji F11, the optimal aperture chosen by the camera changes based on whether I zoom. What about when I go macro? I think I read in your post that when you are in macro, you tend to choose an aperture which is higher in number -- ie. F8.

Just found a good explanation of aperture and what different f-stops mean here: http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Glossary/Exposure/Aperture_01.htm

Key phrase for beginners: "Because f-numbers are fractions of the focal length, "higher" f-numbers represent smaller apertures." --> The higher the f-stop, the smaller the lens opening and the less light is admitted. So, all things equal, you'd want to have the lowest f-stop available paired with a high shutter speed to capture moving subjects in low light?

(And I've just ordered both the Jim Church book on composition and Jack Drafahl's book on technique, so I may be jumping the gun!)
