Hi All, I am looking for clarification on my understanding of front light and rim light when refering to strobes/flashes.

My understanding is that front light is the light that is coming directly off the strobe whereas rim light is the light coming off the "side" of the strobe.

Am I correct in my understanding?

Thanks

In a typical studio shoot, the front lighting is as you say, directly aimed at the subject. Rim lighting is typically done with ANOTHER strobe positioned way to the side or even behind the subject. For underwater use, you could easily use something like an Inon s2000 in slave mode, positioned to the side or behind your subject.
