Scroll down to the part on scuba. Terror Warning Issued for Rail, Transit

By JONATHAN D. SALANT
.c The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (May 24) - The Transportation Department has warned transit and other railroad systems about possible terrorist attacks, a department official said Friday.

Spokesman Chet Lunner said the information that triggered the alert cited ''unconfirmed, non-specific reports that indicated attacks'' that were being considered against subway trains.

The department sent the alert to all subways and other railroad systems, including commuter rail, passenger railroads and freight companies.

The warning did not mention any specific cities nor did it warn of possible multiple attacks.

The advisory asked transit system operators to ''remain in a heightened state of alert,'' Lunner said.

A source speaking on condition of anonymity said such attacks most likely would involve explosives.

Also, the FBI is publicly warning about a possible terrorist threat from scuba divers.

In a bulletin sent to state and local law enforcement agencies, the FBI warned that ''various terrorist elements have sought to develop an offensive scuba diver capability.'' A U.S. law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the warning came from interviews with detainees and documents recovered in terrorism investigations. But this official declined to offer more details.

The scuba warning, which the FBI said was based on uncorroborated and unsubstantiated information, cautioned that while ''there is no evidence of operational planning to utilize scuba divers to carry out attacks within the United States, there is a body of information showing the desire to obtain such capability.''

The scuba warning was published on the FBI's Web site.

What website did you see it. Do you have the url?

Maybe I should buy a bigger knife if there are going to be terrorists down there now...

[...The scuba warning, which the FBI said was based on uncorroborated and unsubstantiated information, ...]

That's all I needed to know.

It was in my aol news. There is not a link. I had to cut and paste it. Weird I know.

What scares me is the thought of idiots out there who will be "patriotically" patrolling the beaches with _____ (fill in deadly weapon of choice), taking aim at divers who are just trying to enjoy their holiday weekend!

Maybe in addition to "always leave somone on the boat" we should also "always leave someone on the shore"...

Safe Diving,

Scuba-sass :-)

I don't think we have much to worry about beaches or offshore, but I would not suggest diving Hudson or East river near structures.

Thats has to be one fo the strangest things i've ever heard. It's not even safe to go undewater anymore! Very, very strange!:)

In related news, PADI has announced a new "Terrorist SCUBA" specialty. For only $200, interested divers will receive all course materials, which must be eaten in case of capture. There is a "bounty" of $25 paid to any diver who refers anyone to this new class. As an ancillary benefit, the FBI will offer free room and board for 3-5 years to anyone taking this class.
