For shallow (typically 35' or less), I use a rig with a 5' long hose as my primary. My buddy knows that this is the donor hose.

At 110' I would dive my doubles in tech configuration given the choice. I have done this many times while diving a recreational profile.

However, I have used one of my deco bottles as a pony, slung on the right side, when I have a deep recreational dive without my doubles.

I have also used an h-valve but find the valve drill much more difficult due to the location of the valve handles close to the midline of my neck.
