Hello to everybody.

I would like to ask if somebody knows where is the best place around Roatan Island to spot Frogfishes, west Bay area?, West End? South coast?

Warm Regards and thank you very much

I have heard of a frog fish being sighted at West Bay between Mandy's Eel Garden and West End Wall. I did not personally see it but a DM told me about his sighting a few years back. Not common, though, and I don't have experience in other dive sites than West Bay, West End and the north west corner of the island.

How nice to not hear about "Whale Shark Lust". :clapping:

The real trick is to find an excellent naturalist dive master. The likelihood of them finding one depends upon their communication with other DMs in that same operation, and the frequency of dives that they perform as a whole. In short: a busy dive op that puts several smart DMs in the water every day.

Frogfish are "temporarily sedentary". They pass through, but very slowly. Since they sit on non-coral bottoms (that are shallow because that's where we are) and are thus subject to surge/current, I have always had better luck finding them where the storms are not~ the South side.

There are a lot of DMs on Roatan.

A few of them even know what they are doing.

Last one I know of for sure was somewhere near AKR in the last week. There was one at Mandy's/Black Rock, but that was a while ago. Another one at one of the Flowers Bay dive sites a few months back. Hasn't been a storm on the North side for a while, so North side is also currently "where the storms are not"....for now. And yes, a few DMs know what they are doing, and believe it or not (shock horror) not all of them work at CoCoView!
