Hi All,

Not sure if this is the right place for this posting.

I'm wondering, has anyone done any diving with fresh water otters? Seems to me it would be a huge amount of fun. If you have dived with them, please let me know where I need to go to do it.

Thanks

Brian

I tasted freshwater otter once. Never dove with them though. Big teeth and claws.

I was flying a Lt. Governor around on his campaign tour for Governor and he had to make a speech at a, let's call it back hills, country town meeting. It was wild game night ala DNR and I tasted all kinds of cute furry animals. No joke. I guess the population of the otters was bigger than the region's population. The DNR authorized some trapping tags for the dinner.

I'd much rather dive with them.

Brian,

I just got a big laugh. I just read where you're from. It just so happened this event was in SE MO. :) I used to live in KC and went to college at UM-Columbia.

The ex-candidate was former KC Chief, Bill Kenney. And the town was outside of Poplar Bluff if I remember right.

Brian,
Bob3 is right. I encountered one the the Chatahoochee River north of Atlanta several years ago. I think his curiosity just got the best of him. He didn't hang around very long. But they are cute, inquisitive animals.

Haven't done it, yet. But there is a river in Idaho I flyfish every fall, and when the salmon spawn the otters go crazy feeding on them. Think I'll bring my scuba gear this year...

Salt, not fresh, but when my mom did her final OW at Monterrey Bay, I went along and got nominated to informally assist. First tasking was to go out and set the dive float (covered inner-tube style.)

When I came back up, an otter had taken possession of this fun new bouncy island, and alternated between sunning itself, chittering at me, and batting at the dive flag.
