Well . . .a first for me. I was out at Lake Medina and came across a couple of dozen fresh water jellyfish. I never knew there was such a thing. They were pretty cool. They really responded to my light. The little suckers move around pretty good.
I was out at Joe's Place at Medina, diving along the wall towards the dam. I saw them all at the 35-40 ft range just under the first thermocline. The temp was in the mid-70's. They were around 1/4" in diameter.
Here's a link the show a pretty good representation of what we saw today.

This may be old new for you veterens but it definitly made the day.

Yeah, those things are neat!

Here's a picture of Timeliner takin' a picture of one at Lake Broken Bow in Oklahoma in '05 (Sorry about the quality of the pic., I'm not that good of a photographer).

That's a pretty good photo Sealskin.
Frank doesn't look like Frank. He looks like a bad monster in a B movie from the 1950s. :14:

Yep, all but a hand full of states in the U.S. have them that we know of. Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming are the only states that they have not been sighted in according to: http://www.jellyfish.iup.edu/US.html.

I was plenty surprised by their existence when I first saw them as well.

We see them in Lake Martin. Rick Murchison has a really good picture of one.

Just read on that website, that August and September are peak months for freshwater jelly sightings! I'll be doing my AOW in Broken Bow at the end of August, WooHoo!! :D
