Yes, that's right, you heard correctly. FREE! Which is a very good price.

These classes are meant to take you from utter cluelessness  into the realms of fish geekdom. :crafty: You'll be able to pick out and ID some of the most common California fish and invertebrates found in your local area. Guaranteed or your money back!

And, to top it off, these classes are NOT boring - and are in fact, quite fun!

Want to put your newfound knowledge to good use? These classes also help divers/snorkelers learn how to become citizen scientists for REEF and help monitor California marine life. Data is submitted online and goes into REEF's publically accessible database to help students, researchers, scientists, etc. (see Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) | Diving That Counts)

Here are the juicy details:
-----------------------------
Friday August 12th, 6pm - 9:30pm California Invertebrate ID
Saturday August 13th, 9:30am - 1pm California Fish ID

Location will be in Room 1302, Marine Science Auditorium at UCSB.
Parking after 5pm and on Saturday is $3 in the UCSB parking lot.

**Classes are free but you must register online here:**

Taught by yours truly. Classes are sponsored by REEF with support from the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and the Marine Science Institute at UCSB.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

PS: If this isn't enough to entice you to sign up, would it help to know that M&Ms are involved? :D

I took this "class" a couple years ago when Janna was in town....trust me, it's worth the price of admission ;)

Seriously, though, knowing some marine life ID makes diving even more fun, imo. I went from talking about those "orange fish" to being able to identify many of our local fish because of this seminar. If you're curious, I highly recommend taking her up on the offer :D

I also took one of these seminars from Janna -- she's a hoot! And knowing what you're looking at adds a HUGE amount to the richness of the experience underwater.
