If anyone is interested, at www.e-sword.net you can download a free copy of the bible as well as commentaries and study software.

Go to www.e-sword.net When the page comes up, look for the download E-Sword now button the right side of the page. This version

the page with a drop down menu box that will allow you to select
bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, graphics and so forth.
When you click on bibles a page with many choices will appear. If
you desire to download any of the first 8 selections there is a
charge. There are 80 other versions that do not require a purchase.

I think that's pretty cool since it seems it would allow one to search the text for key words and phrases.

Hi Dr B, yes it is pretty easy to use. The search features work really well. It also lets you create your own commentary and save your own thoughts in regard to a specific passage.

It also lets you create your own parallel copy with up to 4 translations of your choice in any language on screen at one time. It is interesting to have something that was translated almost 600 years ago up screen with something translated in recent times. I find it fascinating how language has changed over time and from region to region.

In STEP reader/book downloads, I recently found some stuff by historian Flavius Josephus. I still haven't worked my way through all the stuff that is available.

I have found it to be helpful in my studies. I have been using it just over a year. It is nice to have so many resources available at the touch of a key rather than having mounds of paper. I wish I could convert my whole library to electronic media. I was thinking about purchasing something along these lines when someone told me about e-sword. It certainly has saved me some cash as well as has been very useful. I hope it will be useful for others.

Cool. I just downloaded the PDA version. Been looking for a bible to run on my PDA for some time now.
I've had the KJB on my PDA (Palm 3 technology) for three or four years, together with search software. I also have the Islam "holy book", but I wasn't able to find the Jewish one.

It only takes about 5 minutes to down load the first version and the software on high speed. And About3-4 minutes or so for each additional translation you select.

Sounds cool to me. Keyword searching beats using a bible-sized concordance which is what I have to use now.

Yeah, I used to use the one on the back of the Bible or Strong's to look up stuff which lists single words rather than phrases. I could usually find what I was looking for in Strong's but it took so long. With e-sword, if I remember a couple of words, it takes me right to it.

I was hoping to download the pocket version on my Palm Centro, but that isn't supported yet. They support some of the other Palm products. I tried to download it to see if it would work, but I couldn't get it to sink up and download to the Palm.:(
