I had my Light STA and backplates LINE X coated. It's a bedliner spray on process. Cures to the metal in 4 seconds. Solid to the touch. Let it set for 24 hrs before use though. It's a rough black finish. Won't mar your tanks and keeps the backplate from sliding on your back.

It was about $15 for a backplate and $10 for the STA. The guy said if it comes off he'll respray it for free. You're dealer might not say that though. And I don't see any way of it wearing off.....

Extra plus is it's easier on the webbing as it's sprayed in all the slots and holes of the Backplate and STA too. No need for Keepers in the slots either.....
 
I like the Line X idea as well -- I found a few local dealers...

As for this coming weekend -- may go the duct tape route...readily available and easy to apply ;-)
