I've looked in Andy Martinez book (Marine Life of North Atlantic) but not found any resemblance.

I agree. Except for pics in a book (but not AM's) I've not seen one. This one has seen better days.
 
I've seen them up close and personal-Sturgeon.
This one is pretty rotten.
 
Guys...you need to consult an authentic 19th century taxonomy guide. That lovely creature on the ice is related to a Fiji Mermaid.

I just realized that is your foot in the second picture. I touught I was looking at a fish about 4-6 inches NOT 4-6 foot long.

I 2nd or 22nd the Sturgeon guess.....

That be my foot. The other item is a mitten. It was freaking cold at the beach today. The fish was 3-4 feet long.
