I found this in the St.Clair river last week,16" tall and it is made out of copper and has 2" of lead on the bottom, I think that it was used to get water samples of the river from a ship. Let me know if their is a name for this thing.

:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3: My mind went to the same place immediately...."Nice couch. And look at the table....very nice"

Dont know what it is, but gorgeous living room!

They're called bailers. Did it have rope attached to it? How did you find it, was it sticking up from the bottom or buried?

I put the picture on a shipping site that I am a member of. And of course they knew just what it was it is called a sample bottle use to get a oil sample out of a hold on a tanker ship.It had a line that was attaced to the straps on the sides and another line to the cork in the bottle when lowered would pull the line wih the cork and get the test sample. This being an old model they are still sold. Webb site SAMPLING BOTTLES ASTM D4057 - ISO 3170 NFM 07001 - DIN 51750 - IP 51
I found it just laying on the bottom, maybe sent over the side to be cleaned out and went to the bottom.
